Our History

A century in the stone.

Long before the first wedding toast, the Brady Lodge was a place for fresh air, friendship and community. Here is its story.

Through the Years

From scout camp to celebration.

  1. Early 1900s

    Camp Brady

The land becomes home to Camp Brady, a Boy Scout camp where young people spend their summers outdoors. The camp carries the name of George Nelson Brady, a believer in the health and value of outdoor recreation.

  2. 1921

    The Lodge Is Built

The Brady Lodge rises as the heart of the camp, a gathering place for meals, meetings and campfire stories.

  3. 1925November

    Fire

Fire destroys much of the original lodge, but not the spirit of the place or the people who loved it.

  4. 1926June

    Rebuilt in Stone

The lodge is rebuilt with its distinctive fieldstone walls, brick arches and copper-roofed tower, the landmark that still stands today.

  5. 1988

    Bay Court Park

Independence Township acquires the property, preserving the lodge and its grounds for the community as Bay Court Park.

  6. Today

    A New Chapter

Restored and ready, the Brady Lodge welcomes weddings, showers, reunions and celebrations, continuing more than a century of gathering.

Historical details are drawn from the lodge's dedication plaque and the Bay Court Park historical marker.
